Radio frontier
Antennas, propagation, listening, and the art of pulling a useful signal out of the noise.
READ THE FIELD NOTE ↗Build the node. Find the signal. Keep the network alive.
A field station for radio, mesh networks, hardware experiments, and the things you discover when you stop accepting black boxes.
Small nodes. Open ideas.
Networks built from the ground up.
Antennas, propagation, listening, and the art of pulling a useful signal out of the noise.
READ THE FIELD NOTE ↗LoRa experiments, portable nodes, and communication that starts with your own hardware.
READ THE FIELD NOTE ↗Field observation, spectrum curiosity, and a better understanding of the wireless landscape.
READ THE FIELD NOTE ↗Start with a repeatable receive setup. Record the antenna, frequency, mode, location, and UTC time. Change one variable at a time. A useful field note explains what changed, not just what sounded better.
Keep the actual station callsign separate from the NODE UN6 website brand. Use the field-log template below to record observations and your own authorized contacts.
DOWNLOAD FIELD LOG ↗Give each node a clear label. Document firmware, regional configuration, antenna, power supply, and placement before a field test. Compare two known positions before introducing a moving node.
Record missed messages as well as successful ones. Treat range as an observed result of the test conditions, not a promise printed on the hardware.
DOWNLOAD NODE INVENTORY ↗Separate observation from access. Keep wireless surveys within your authorization, and record only what your research actually needs. Prepare equipment before driving and leave operation to a passenger or stop safely.
For public reports, summarize patterns instead of publishing exact locations and identifiers of private networks. Record receiver capabilities so the log does not imply coverage of bands the hardware cannot receive.
